Food Find: PipCorn
So I am semi-obsessed with Shark Tank. I love the tales of struggle and big dreams. Of course not all of the ideas are great. Those are the stories that tug at the heartstrings. Not surprisingly, the food products intrigue me. I love the Wicked Good cupcakes and I'm hoping Cousins Maine Lobster comes to a town near me really soon. Barbara Corcoran is one of my favorite sharks. She has a ton of common sense and even though she's super skinny, she likes food investments.
I was extremely skeptical of PipCorn. I mean does the world really need mini popcorn? What's wrong with regular sized popcorn? Was anyone complaining about it? I think not. But I liked the brother-sister backstory. I was curious enough to shell out five bucks for a bag. Definitely more than Skinny Pop. My local FreshMarket had two varieties, Sea Salt and Truffle. Typically, I like to try new foods in their purest form, so sea salt it was.
I don't know if I can articulate why, but we loved this popcorn. As they state on their website, PipCorn is real mini corn, so the hulls of the corn are smaller. No tricky, tooth cracking nuggets. and maybe the smaller size increased the corn-to-salt ratio. That is as important to me with popcorn as with fries.
Whatever the reason, it is ridiculously good. And those little kernels mean more per handful. You can purchase PipCorn on their website or in higher-end grocery stores. I look forward to trying other flavors like salt and vinegar, cheddar, and especially kettle.
