Thai of a Different Stripe
On a recent trip to San Francisco, my colleague and I fled the crowded tradeshow floor and pre-packaged lunch choices for a civilized meal. The city is rife with possibilities. Typically, I like to have Asian or Mexican food in California since it's so much better than what's available in my area. And that's how we ended up at Kin Khao, an unassuming spot wedged next to a FedEx Kinko shop at the rear of the Parc 55 Hotel.
It was busy (Valentine's Day), but we were seated quickly. The menu is brief but offers diverse choices from meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes that expand beyond the Thai greatest hits of traditional curries. We were hungry after a morning spent facing down vendors at the show.
We ordered several dishes to share.
Overall, I loved this place. What it lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for on the palate. I would say the chicken salad was the least flavorful dish and one I wouldn't order again. We were trying to be healthy. However with so many other dishes that were flavor bombs, we didn't need it. I would definitely go back for the shrimp noodles alone. And maybe at night to try some of the intriguing cocktail combinations.
